Step 2: Review Your Order of Service

Angi’s national guide says a local move usually costs between $876 and $2,547, with an average of about $1,696. Movers there charge around $80 an hour for each mover, so a two-person crew runs about $160 an hour on average.

Local moves are usually priced by the hour, and long-distance moves are priced by weight and distance. At Ravan, we give free estimates with no hidden fees, and we count stairs, long carries, and gate access up front.

Book three to four weeks ahead, and six to eight weeks is even better in busy season. Summer is our busiest time, along with weekends, the end of the month, and holidays. Our calendar fills fast. If your move comes up at the last minute, call us. We will help if we have a crew and a truck open.

A one-bedroom apartment can take three to four hours with a two-person crew. A four-bedroom house can take six to eight hours, or spread over two days. Time depends on your home size, how much you own, the distance, and access, like stairs or a gated community. During your estimate, we give you a realistic time frame.

Check the mover’s Florida registration and federal license number. Florida requires movers who work inside the state to register with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. You can look up a federal USDOT number on the FMCSA moving company search. Ravan’s Florida license is IM 2714. 

As an interstate agent for Wheaton World Wide Moving, we work under Wheaton’s USDOT 070719 and MC 87113. We also carry cargo, general liability, and workers’ compensation insurance.

Your mover must offer valuation coverage, and the free basic level pays 60 cents per pound for each item. The FMCSA gives this example: a 25-pound TV that is lost or damaged would pay out only $15. Full Value Protection costs extra and covers repair, replacement, or the current value of the item. 

You can read the rules on the FMCSA liability page. At Ravan, we offer all coverage levels. For local moves, we also double the minimum coverage to $1.20 per pound, with no deductible and no charge to you. If you ever need to file a claim, you have nine months from your move date, and we will help.
